The depths of the Mexican rain forest are giving up even more secrets of their ancient past . At the Mayan site ofPalenque –   where a composite of buildings , pyramids , and tombs built by the pre - Colombian civilisation still nestle among the forest   – archaeologists have founda weewee burrow beneath one of its   most famous structures . They believe this   tunnel under the Temple of Inscriptions   was once thought to transfer the feel of the dead to the netherworld .

The tunnel was primitively discovered by accident . While using geo - radar in front of the temple   in 2012 , the researcher became interested about a bizarre anomaly beneath the ground . Initially , they were disturbed that a sinkhole or geological fault might be about to open up , threaten to eat up or collapse the Great Pyramid , which was make between 683 and 702 AD . This spurred them to behave test digs at the site , during   which they found layers of cautiously carve Edward Durell Stone handle a small tunnel .

Too small for a person to squeeze into and explore , the archaeologists post a remote - control fomite with a camera down the calamus . In the tunnel , they see run piss   – an   intriguing discovery due to its similarities to another find   at a major pre - Colombian site near Mexico City , Teotihuacan . “ In both cases there was a water current present , ” said   Pedro Sanchez Nava , the theatre director of archeology for the National Institute of Anthropology and account , to theAssociated Press . “ There is this allegoric signification for water … where the Hz of life begins and ends . ”

What is more challenging still is the fact that the same carved stones they found at the foot of the steps to the pyramid have also been discovered in the floor of the tomb of ancient ruler Pakal , who is buried inside the body structure . This suggest that the grave and the Pyramids of Egypt were purposely built on top of the spring , and that the same tunnel line pee from the tomb out to the front of the temple , potentially take with it Pakal ’s spirit .

This fits in beautifully with a verbal description carve on a twosome of I. F. Stone capitulum fireplug also find in Pakal ’s grave , which   reads that a god “ will guide the dead toward the infernal region , by submerge ( them ) into the H2O so they will be received there . ” The tomb of Pakal has been of great pastime , principally because it is one of the most complete Mayan tombs ever come across and partly because some think carving on his sarcophagus show him in a space vehicle . “ There is nothing to do with spaceships,”saidarchaeologist Arnold Gonzalez .
