Kate UptonandJustin Verlanderwere a match made in style heaven on the red carpet Wednesday night.
The couple stepped out for a fashionable date night at the 37th AnnualFootwear NewsAchievement Awards at Cipriani South Street in New York City, and they told PEOPLE what they think of each other’s style.
When asked how he would describe his wife’s style, Verlander, 41, said that Upton, 31, is “effortless.”
Wearing a floor-length black satin gown with an open back and a scoop neck, the model certainly lived up to the praise her husband offered.
As for how she’d describe her other half — who wore a satin suit jacket and black bowtie to match his wife — Upton says of Verlander: “He’s all about the quiet luxury.”
She adds of the Houston Astros pitcher, “He’s very stylish.”
The couple, whogot engagedin 2016 andwedthe following year in Italy — just days after Verlander won the World Series with the Houston Astros.
It wasa “storybook” wedding, the pitcher told PEOPLEafterwards.
“The moment the gates opened and I saw her walking down the aisle, I lost it. She looked so beautiful, and I had been looking forward to that day for a long time,” he said at the time. “All the emotions came to me, and it was everything I had imagined it would be and more.”

On Father’s Day this year, UptoncelebratedVerlander on Instagram as she praised, “I love watching you be the most incredible #GirlDad… Vivi and I are so lucky to have you @justinverlander. ❤️”
“Nothing beats being a dad. 😩❤️,” the pitcher said on Instagram in 2022 as he shared anadorable photoof Genevieve, now 5, giving him a big hug.

As a father, Verlander has previously been candid abouthow long he plans to stay in the MLBas he and Upton juggle their busy schedules.
In 2019, he told PEOPLE that Genevieve pushes him “to stay in shape and stay healthy, and be a good pitcher as long as I possibly can. I want her to be able to remember me on the field.”
“I would like to be able to play long enough that my daughter can see me and remember me playing baseball when she grows older,” he said.
At that point, she was less than two years old, but he gushed: “It’s the most amazing experience in my life and to be a dad, I really can’t even put into words how much I love this little girl.”
