Supernatural often features brilliant musical moments — but few as hilarious , or as clever , as this one . Castiel , the fallen holy man who ’s lose his powers , sing the expectant American Hero idea tune , all about miraculously gaining great power . Amazing stuff and nonsense .

This was a really neat episode of Supernatural in general , because it capitalize brightly on the two characters whose status quos changed the most irrevocably at the end of season eight — Castiel , who ’s now human , and Crowley , who also touch his humanity and apparently lose his mojo as King of Hell . They ’re both in immensely reduced lot — which give us a window into how Heaven and Hell did things in their day , and how they ’re doing thing now . Plus a hazard to muse on the nature of humankind , in all its humiliating dignity .

This week , both Castiel and Crowley get hydrofoil who utterly act everything they no longer are — Castiel is faced with another angel , Ephram , who is the “ Hand of Mercy ” for Heaven . Ephram has plow serial killer because of his itch to ease people ’s pain ( for good . ) And Ephram say Castiel that he deserves to be put out of his miserableness , not just because being human is cause him such great anguish but also because he ’s throw up on all the greatness he once strove for . So far this season , the fallen holy man and the lapsed King of Hell are the most interesting thing going on .
