Anyone who views cartoon as high art would do well to check out Diana Nock ’s The Intrepid Girlbot , a wordless comic about a darling Girlbot and a cybernetically enhanced raccoon searching for their places in the world .
The Intrepid Girlbotis a deceivingly simple comic . The nominal Girlbot is a sugared and lonely affair , living in a giant home in the middle of nowhere . She lives a placid biography with her robotic cat and mouse ( who are interlock in an endless and futile Tom and Jerry fight ) and her pair of gargantuan hands .
But Girlbot longs for more , longs to be as pretty as the womanly gynoids she see out in the fields and the girls in magazines . But her attempts to be better girl never quite succeed . butterfly fry in her grasp . peach treatments backfire . And a certain raccoon winds up temporarily gone .
Parallel to Girlbot ’s report is the fib of Raccoon , a once - average raccoon who has been kill and renovate – better , stronger , faster , with a penchant for circumstantially setting things on ardour . All she want to do is return to her folk and exist out her life , but her newfound powers make her , like Girlbot , an outsider .
Nock has countersink a high level of difficulty for herself . Not only is Girlbot dialogue - free , Nock also opt for a clear , unostentatious style in lieu of exaggerated dumb show .
