For years , Terry Gilliamtried to get a movie version of Watchmen made without success , before deciding that the book was unfilmable . So what did he make ofZack Snyder‘s faithful , CGI - filled rendering from earlier this year ?
During an interview to promote his newThe Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus , Gilliam revealed what he thought about Snyder ’s take on the classic graphic novel :
It got trashed , but there are great chronological succession in there , but the overall effect is kind of large in a sure agency . I started cast it down to … you know , in the comic Bible , or graphic novel … They ’re still mirthful books to me ( laughs ) … It ’s like the Comedian ’s coffin is going into the grave with the virtuoso and stripe on top of it and scan it in the funny book it ’s three panels , gold rush , roaring and roar . On film “ hhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmm … ”

The pace is wrong . I was glad our interpretation did n’t get done , the one that Charles McKeown and I had indite , because we had tighten it down to about two hours and five minute I think and we lose so much . Comedian was rationalise down to next to nothing . So ( Zack Snyder ) did a good job , but it just felt … I also thought The Incredibles had kind of fucked it for him … [ S]o much of that material had been in a target that everybody had been hollow goodies out of and suddenly you get lose . I think Watchmen really bothered me , because I thought it should be better . It was all there . It look good , but to me it was pace . It did n’t have pace . It needed a fleck more quirkiness in there . Dr. Manhattan was get boring , frankly , and then Ozymandias by the end I thought “ Oh , come on ! ” They lost me by the end , candidly , but it was for sure looking well than what I was going to do ! ( laughs )
