Bryan Fuller is a bit busy these days , what with the triumphant American Gods bobble our minds on a weekly basis . But the master showrunner ca n’t quite leave one of his darling past creations behind : Hannibal . In fact , he ’s already got some musical theme just in typesetter’s case season four ever happen .
Granted , most of the chief characters were slightly compromised at the ( presumed ) finale of time of year three . Hannibal Lecter ( Mads Mikkelsen ) and Will Graham ( Hugh Dancy ) had finally , uh , “ consummated ” their relationship by rent in a bloody battle then plunging together off a cliff , while Hannibal ’s healer - turned - bastard - wife Bedelia ( Gillian Anderson ) sat hold off to answer him a sumptuous feast with her own leg as the main course . And , of course , everything was gorgeously photographed and shoot through with dementedly over - the - top ( and lovin’ it ) symbolization .
Speaking on a recent instalment of repulsion - tinged podcastPost Mortem With Mick Garris , Fuller reinforced his ebullience for a potential season four :
“ I have conversations with [ manufacturer ] Martha De Laurentiis . I have conversation with Mads [ Mikkelsen ] and Hugh [ Dancy ] ; we ’re all excited about the prospect of returning to the tale . There ’re some hurdles to get through . The rights turn back back to Martha in September , I conceive , and then it ’s a matter of : do we do it with [ old production companionship ] Gaumont ? Which would be the only way to do it if we wanted to use those characters . ”
Those annoying rights issues are a large reason why Hannibal never included any of The Silence of the Lambs character or storyline ( earlier from Thomas Harris ’ novel , and made domain - famous thanks to the Oscar - deliver the goods picture show ) , but freely cerise - blame from other Harris novels Red Dragon and Hannibal .
