Last week , while Ichabod was chatting up Masons and birth visions - within - flashback , Abbie actually start something done and bring through him . In what is possibly the name - droppiest , the - future - is - odd - est episode of Sleepy Hollow yet , the Horseman is after his head , and basically literally anything else with a head ; to prevent him from getting his head back and starting the Apocalypse , Ichabod and Abbie must decode the undercover manuscript of Sam Adams and John Hancock ( certain ) using the cipher embed in the Horseman ’s teeth by Paul Revere ( okay ) , silversmith turn dental practitioner ( Colonial history joke ) , and realize they have to repair sunlight and trap the Horseman within it ( gotcha ) , while debating the macrocosm of bottled piss . An even busy episode than common , then !
We open with a brief diversion of the Midnight Ride , where everyone whispers “ The Regulars are coming ” to every other person in town one person at a sentence , and three brave compatriot of Paul Revere are mown down by the Horseman !
Body Count : Three revolutionaries , one of whom is being beheaded powerful here and the other two it ’s safe to say he live on back and decollate just as presently as he draw his mien .
The sequence ’s B - plot , Ichabod Crane vs. The Future : NorthStar Was Only the first , begins with boggling at bulk shopping and disbelief about bottled body of water ; this never comes to anything , but just do it that if anyone in this installment is drinking water of any kind , Ichabod is giving them shit about it .

That kind of singleminded devotion , even when the someone does n’t require it , often gets paint as romantic , or at least baronial ; it ’s certainly understandable to want to protect Abbie given how awesome she is , but that ’s not why he ’s doing it and the show does n’t let you bury that . ( recall when he knocked her out and put her in his machine and crooned about protecting her as he pet her font ? This show certainly does . )
Brooks gets to improve some of this later , when he offer Abbie his assistance without involve anything in return , but esprit de corps is more creeped out by Brook ’s possessiveness than he is by Brooks being a walk , talking corpse , and that is accurate .

At the precinct , discussions about how to proceed destroying the Horseman ’s head ( which is evidence , which is possibly the first red - tape procedural trouble this show has decide to deploy since the pilot ) are interrupted by this very appealing day player :
She and Irving chat about his daughter ( “ your subplot call ! ” ) and I like to think that while they ’re dispense with the Horseman she ’s in reality trying to be an effective decision maker about all the regular offence , and is the scourge of veritable criminals all over town .

Then he entice the Horseman into the tunnel with his own head as the bait – and several other head , all Halloween props – and then a tie with Abbie and Ichabod on either side of him , tantalise him until the flicker of flatware give away that Abbie ’s hold the existent head . One broken - ankle joint fakeout later , it ’s time to jump the trap ! And Irving is ON IT .
And so , a mere seven episodes into the first season of a show about the Headless Horseman , our Cuban sandwich have now trapped the Horseman , turn in him dormant until they necessitate to free him again , presumably three or so episodes before the ending of the season . Or , knowing this show , next sequence .
They look as surprised as we are !
To call this show ’s pace “ breakneck ” seems both trite and a dire punning , but when I say they are not going to ware your prison term , I mean it . This clearly is n’t the death of the Horseman , and they are n’t even act that it is , but if you ’d been asked at the first of this episode whether they would bring home the bacon in trapping him or whether this would be the kickoff of a multi - episode chase , particularly with Andy Brooks back in the mixing , years of TV tempo would have suggested the latter , with this instalment start a chase would culminate next week as they finally , with a likely assist from Andy , shut up the Horseman in their clutches .
But this show , while resting well amid its many tropes , wants things to build up more than it wants pretty much anything else .
