Pacific Rim start with a bang — a two - minute sequence report 15 years of the war against the Kaiju . And this prologue , boast 80 special effects sequence , was created by Guillermo del Toro ’s own companyMirada . We ’ve set about an exclusiv look at the devising of it .
The sequence shows Kaijus decimating Manila , San Francisco and Los Angeles . And it had to sell the credibility of this world , in good order off the at-bat . As Mirada ’s VFX supervisor Zach Tucker explain :
The prologue montage covers a luck of ground in a short window so we had a great deal of data and visuals to pack in . Our work also had to attend credible and match the timber of ILM ’s oeuvre . To accomplish this , we did n’t take any cutoff and make a ton of elaborate assets from dough , from Kaiju to Jaegars and more , with all the invigoration , lighting and compositing done in star sign .
