On Tuesday , legion Amazon exploiter noticed something strange : They ’d get emails from the retail merchant notifying them “ someone expectant recently purchased a natural endowment from your babe register ! ”
Strange because few of the customers who had received the e-mail were fraught or had newborns , allow alone had an active infant registry on the website . Some user were merely slightly upset ; others thought it was an Amazon junk e-mail subject matter sent in remarkably pitiable taste , while a few wonder if it was a phishing attack by a malicious third company .
harmonise to CNN , an attached radio link captioned “ See Your Thank You List ” redirected user to Amazon ’s home page , mobile app or to arrange up their own baby register .

I did except I DO really have an Amazon sister registry . Read online that it was just a glitch , hopefully not a virus or phishing !

As seemed the likeliest explanation , Amazon now says the emails were sent out in error .
“ We are notifying unnatural customer , ” an Amazon spokesperson told Gizmodo via electronic mail . “ A expert bug caused us to inadvertently send a talent alerting e - mail before today . We apologise for any disarray this may have caused . ”
Amazon did not immediately reply to a followup doubtfulness requesting more details on what incisively the bug was — though the written matter sent to customers appeared to resemble a generic presentment electronic mail rather than any form of sales pitch .

So there ’s that little mystery explained . No badly - count advertising campaign , no phishing attempt and no intent to do anything else , at least in Amazon ’s variation of the story . That ’s a relief , believe the last Amazon bug was accidentally informing exploiter shopping for certain chemicals which other component they would needto make a bomb .
