Getting candid about becoming a first-time mom, Hall explained to PEOPLE that she sometimes felt “insecure” in her new role. She said that her hopes of solely breastfeeding Moses were not possible because her body wasn’t producing enough milk.
“I went into this thinking, ‘Breastfeeding is my goal, but if it doesn’t work, fine. There’s formula,' ” she said in 2019. “But cut to three weeks later, andI’m not able to pump out enough milk."
She went on to detail the anxieties that she felt, explaining that she was worried her son was not drinking enough. But after reaching out to fellow mom friends, Hall ended up learning that everyone she knew also struggled with these insecurities and that she had nothing to worry about.
“You see how afraid we are of being judged, and then when I would get one-on-one with my friends, we’d all peel back those masks that we put on as women, as moms, and suddenly we’re all the same,” Hall said.
That wasn’t the only time Hall’s expectations of motherhood were challenged either. In a November 2023 profile forThe New York Times, Hall reflected on how her parenting opinions have shifted since becoming a mom.
“I always said I was not going to be a parent who has an iPad at the table, but I’m a parent with an iPad at the table. It’s being realistic,” she said of her family’s Sunday morning routine. “We’ve been up since 6:30 and we want to not rush through our breakfast. Some days we use it, some days we don’t.”
Moses was going to have a different name

During an appearance on PEOPLE’sMe Becoming Mompodcast in 2021, the journalist explained that she had already picked out her son’s name early in her pregnancy. However, there was one other name that the couple had considered.
Hall added that she was ultimately “happy” that she didn’t call her child Bob, although she still loves the name.
Hall and Greener are teaching their son about his heritage

Moses’ parents are teaching their little one about his cultural roots,“combining” their livesto make him aware of his mom and dad’s different religions.
“[My husband’s] Jewish, so we had a bris here at the house,” Hall told PEOPLE. “My mom nearly passed out. We had both grandparents on each side there, and he’s going to Texas to have a Christening or a Confirmation at my mom’s Southern Baptist church.”
“We’ve just combined our life experience, and we want to teach him tradition,” she added.
Moses has a live-in nanny

Hall is very transparent about her parenting style, and in February 2023, she spoke of her decision to havea live-in nannyto help out with childcare.
In an interview withSheKnows, the boy mom explained that it’s “impossible” to do life without the nanny as her nearest family members live 2,000 miles away.
“I made a very conscious and deliberate decision to make sure people knew this about my life,” Hall said. “I wasn’t going to pretend and I also felt that [to not talk about the live-in nanny] was diminishing this great woman who chose a career to care for my son when I’m not able to be there.”
