We ’ve catch WonderCon ’s exclusive Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter footage , and it ’s chock full of our sixteenth president taking his trustworthy axe to malign vampire ’s chests . It ’s precisely the sort of gaga over - the - top action you ’d look from the director of Wanted !
The footage jump with Abraham Lincoln ( Benjamin Walker ) and his longtime acquaintance and valet Will Johnson ( Anthony Mackie ) on a train en route to Gettysburg . Lincoln says they are eighty Admiralty mile away , and those eighty miles will determine whether the land belongs to the life or the numb . Just then , vampire part jumping onto the side of meat of the train , and so Lincoln take hold of his ax and Will his hired gun to do battle .
After giving each other a abbreviated look of camaraderie , the pair go to work , with Johnson head to the top of the train while Lincoln works his way through the cable car . A lamia rushes the President , and Lincoln throws his axe straight through the attacker . Above , Will discharge his guns , picking off vampire go out and veracious . Lincoln gravel his ax into a beam and uses them to swing into the next lamia and kick back it in the chest . Another lamia approaches , and Lincoln apply his ax to choke it and then throws it off the gearing .

Meanwhile , a distaff vampire sets a rail bridge on fire – one the train is fast approach . Back on the caravan , Will is under toilsome flame , and he looks done for until Lincoln bolt down up and blow a lamia away with the part of his axe that is also a scattergun – you may get a coup d’oeil of that bad boy inthe freshly released trailer . They look about to deliver the goods the day , but of a sudden Rufus Sewell ’s head vampire Adam shows up and easily evade all of Lincoln and Will ’s short flailing attacks . As some of the railroad train cars fly off the fiery , break bridge , Lincoln and Will taste to jump across to one of the cars that still has a chance to make it to the other side .

The footage was fairly much incisively what you would expect from Wanted film director Timur Bekmambetov , full of violent action that somehow manage to be both visceral and weirdly graceful . Bekmambetov remain one of the few director who can pull off a dim motion shoot and actually make it play . In price of unadulterated action at law , this setpiece intimate the movie should fork up the goods at least as well as Wanted – and whatever else one might say about Wanted , the action sequences were solid . The great unanswered question is how these setpieces will check into the movie ’s twisted diachronic narrative and how well the movie hits the right tone in its half-baked mash - up .

The panel feature Bekmambetov , original novelist and screenwriter Seth Grahame - Smith , and star Ben Walker . Grahame - Smith explain that the movie had to make some cardinal departures from the book , admit adding two cardinal characters . The first was a lead lamia villain on which to focus the film ’s fight on , which hail in the person of Rufus Sewell ’s Adam , the headman of all lamia . The second was Will Johnson , who was Lincoln ’s real - life friend and gentleman’s gentleman and bestow a vital friend for the graphic symbol ’s journey .
The panel also discussed how this unfeignedly is meant as a superhero movie . Grahame - Smith articulate that Lincoln ’s real , non - vampire story , starting with the last of his mother , is one full of the same sort of hurting and redemption through heroism that is so often insure in superhero blood stories , and that he weigh Lincoln America ’s only genuine superhero . ( I feel like Franklin D. Roosevelt and George Washington might need a Son with him on that one , but I see his power point . )
For his part , Ben Walker said that there are so many life history of Lincoln to look for in his enquiry , but a lot of them are more interested with the political side of Lincoln , which is n’t a cardinal part of his picture . He pointed to The Melancholy of Lincoln as a central influence on his type , as it enshroud how Lincoln dealt with death and impression , not to mention his poetry ( which I ’m guessing does not have heavily in the pic ) . Walker say that it ’s an honor as an American to be allowed to act Lincoln , and that he screw the idea of a drawing card who is ready to kick back ass and decapitate baddie . That ’s a sentiment I think we can all get behind .

Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter open June 22 .
